TYPICAL MATERIAL SPECIFICATIONS - DESIGN REQUIREMENTS

6.1 TENSION ROD

Tension rods shall be manufactured from round bar of an appropriate diameter designed to suit the conditions. The material of the tension rod shall be high strength low thermal expansion ferritic austenitic 2205 duplex stainless steel with an ultimate tensile strength of 800mPa.
The tension rod shall be machined and threaded with left hand and right hand threads both ends smoothed and cleaned (free running) for the fork connections.

6.2 FORKS RE/16, RE/20 and RE/25

The tension rod fork RE/xx connecting to the tension rod, in turn connecting to the node, shall be manufactured from the lost wax casting process of low thermal expansion high stress – corrosion and cracking resistant and capable of age hardening ferritic-austenitic ASTM329 duplex stainless steel with ultimate tensile material strength of 780mPa.

The fork RE/xx after casting shall be machined and threaded with left hand and right hand screw threads ready for the tension rod and node connections. All surfaces shall be in fine satin # 4 or mirror polish #6.

6.3 NODE – CN

The node CN is a central connection between the tension rod/fork RE/25 and the spar. The node shall be manufactured from the same process in high strength stainless steel grade 329 as per the fork RE/xx above.

6.4 SPAR – 32

Spar 32 shall be manufactured from a standard stock size 32mm diameter round bar of austenitic 316 grade stainless steel with ultimate tensile strength of 600mPa. Spar 32 shall be machined and cut with internal screw threads at both ends for the Node CN and spider connections. All surfaces shall be linished to fine satin #4 finish or mirror polish #6.

6.5 SPIDER 446m Series

The Austfix spider fittings shall be manufactured from the lost wax casting process with standard 316 grade stainless steel with a tensile strength of 600mPa. The spider arms (115mm long x 17mm x 18mm cross section) are designed to support a 3.75kN wind loading and to allow flexibility to reduce the stress around the glass holes.

The Austfix Spider assembly is to be completed with fasteners consisting of M10 or M14 swivel articulated countersunk bolts and AGA round headed nut, manufactured from 316 grade stainless steel rod with machined screw threads complying to ISO965/1 metric M thread profile. Two snake eye holes is provided in the head of the Austvision swivel to ensure the maximum tightening torque can be achieved.

6.6 The Austfix assembly consists of the following parts:

6.6.1 Swivel articulated countersunk head screws is the fixing member which is manufactured from 316 Grade stainless steel with tensile strength of
600 MPa, a Yield Strength of 220 MPa and with an M10 or M14 external thread complying with the British standard BS3643.

6.6.2 The Austfix fittings are protected from direct contact with the glass by an insulating material known as TOYO non compressible vulcanised fibre
VFS-1 gasket (ø60mm O.D x 11mm I.D x 0.8mm thick) which is grey in
colour and manufactured to conform to the Japanese standard
JIS C2315.

6.6.3 The glass hole is insulated from the countersunk screw by a
black countersunk, U.V resistant Nylon MS bush.

6.6.4 A ø60mm O.D. x ø11mm I.D x 7mm thick threaded collar is utilised for efficient transfer of load from the glass to the Austfix Spider fitting and
manufactured from 316 Grade stainless steel.

6.6.5 Non-compressible vulcanised fibre gasket ø32mm O.D x ø11mm I.D x
0.8mm thick insulates between metal to metal surfaces to eliminate undue
noise.

6.6.7 A washer ø32mm O.D x 11mm I.D x 1.5mm thick, manufactured from
304 Grade stainless steel with a tensile strength of 600 MPa, distributes
the clamping load evenly to the Austfix Spider fitting as well as providing
an aesthetic quality.

6.6.8 An M10 spring washer manufactured from 304 stainless steel acts as a
lock mechanism to secure the nut in place ensuring full tightness for long
periods of time.

6.6.9 The Austfix Spider assembly is fastened securely by an M10 AGA round headed nut, manufactured from 316 Grade stainless steel with an
internal thread complying to BS3643. An M6 Allen key recess is
provided to ensure maximum torque load can be applied to the Austfix
assembly.

6.7 ANCHOR BRACKET – T BRACKET

The T-Brackets providing end fixings for the tension rod system shall be fabricated from high strength low thermal expansion ferritic austenitic 2205 duplex stainless steel with an ultimate tensile strength of 800mPa. All sharp edges are removed and the surface linished to smooth finish.

6.8 SUSPENSION ROD – 12

The vertical suspension rod – 12 shall be machined from standard size 12mm diameter round bar of austenitic 316 grade stainless steel with an ultimate tensile strength of 600mPa. The suspension rod – 12 shall be machined threaded both ends to connect to the casting of the spider for suspension of the facade glass panel and assemblies.
